Dishonest. Big mistake booking them.

Booking this cross country move was one of the biggest and most costly mistakes I have made. The customer service before the move and communication was great. They sent an in person estimator out to give an accurate estimate. He explained they wrap all the big items for us and don’t count boxes. He said they use a measuring system once it’s in the truck and I’d be able to see how much space our items took up and charged per cubic foot. They gave a “high end” estimate of $3200 and he said it most likely will actually be about $2700. I was good with this.

Day of the move the entire business model changes. They start charging per box and item, tell me they can’t wrap our large items and that I need to buy their boxes. We had sturdy packages prepared and wrapped but they said they needed to have them in their boxes too. We were forced to buy two wardrobe boxes at $45 each and they charged to wrap our 2 TV’s, another $125. They charged us “packing fees” too because they had to put items into the boxes that they made us buy. We ended up leaving behind 4 stools, dishes, and other items because the over charges were getting too high. They didn’t give us any other options but to pay the excess. I voiced how I felt about it and they threatened to unload all of our items and find a new moving company. We had to be out of the apartment the next day so we were left with no other option but pay the excess fees. The new quote was $3900. The rep I was working with only said “you didn’t read all of the fine print.”

On the arrival side I was called on a Wednesday morning to schedule delivery the next day. He said he would arrive late Thursday. My paperwork indicated we cant be moved in after 5pm. Then he said he will try to make it before 5 otherwise he will come at 6am on Friday. There was another move in our building scheduled Friday 9-1 so he had to come outside those hours. Thursday late morning I ask for a follow up, I didn’t hear anything. I called and texted and never heard anything. After waiting around my apartment all day and taking off work, I realized they aren’t coming and just took a chance they’d come Friday. I took another day off work for this. The driver called Friday morning and tells me he was out of cell service and also broke down and they’d be here later morning. I already explained they can’t come between 9 and 1. We end up getting approval to have them move us because they movers kept saying they were close and I was nervous about additional fees for wait time or something. Day of the move, we end up getting charged $319 more for long carry. This long carry was on the inside of our building. Our unit is further away from the elevator.

So the $3200 “high-end, you won’t go over this” quote ended up being $4200. We did talk them down some on each ends but we ended up paying $3984 before tip. It’s robbery. They screw you over day of because they know you have no other options.

I get accused of not reading all their ridiculous fine print and get threatened to not move us when I show some emotion with the excess fees but they have zero regard for information you give them, that they ask for, for delivery times, days, etc. Their estimator blatantly lied about how they calculate costs and also low balled us and they take zero responsibility for it.

Terrible company, such a joke. I’ve never been taken advantage of so much but I have learned my lesson. There are much better moving companies out there who are more honest. I wish I researched more because I would have saved over $1000 probably.

Some positives though - nothing was lost or damaged and the actual moving crews were fast and efficient
